Job Details:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for either an experienced Teaching Assistant, or a successful graduate looking for work experience before a move into teaching,  to support teaching and learning within our school. We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual, who enjoys a varied job role to join our Teaching Assistant team, providing classroom based support, whilst successfully nurturing and inspiring our children to learn.

You will be working as part of an energetic and busy team to provide additional support to our children. This will include providing additional learning support to small groups of children. Experience providing assistance for SATS assessments is preferable but not essential.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will have a caring and nurturing nature, and the ability to relate well to children of all ages, promoting excellent behaviour standards and encouraging independence. You will have the opportunity to work alongside outstanding teachers, to observe and share best practice on a regular basis to further develop a career.

This position would suit an already experienced TA, or alternatively, this position may also suit a graduate seeking to gain valuable work experience before embarking on a career in teaching. If you are considering teaching as a career, working as a TA within our school will give you an important insight into teaching. You will also have the opportunity to observe excellent teaching practice and access to invaluable support in applying for a place on our Schools Direct course, partnered with Roehampton University.

What we offer:

• Permanent contract
• Hours – 8:40am-3:15pm, Monday to Friday (total working week of 30 hours, 5 minutes excluding 30 minute lunch break)
• Salary –£16,981 Sp5 on NJC support staff pay scale (FTE £22,575)
• Competitive salary in line with NJC support staff pay scale

The right candidate will have:

GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.

• Preferably experience of working with children in Key Stage 2 in a school environment.
• Understanding of how to support not only academic, but emotional and social needs of children in this age range
• Caring and nurturing nature
• Have high expectations and be committed to inclusion for all children and their families
• A proven ability to work on their own initiative
• A high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults
• The ability to use relevant technology/equipment to access learning

Job Requirements:

• Supporting children on a 1:1 or small group basis using planned interventions to bridge gaps in learning
• Supporting individual children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) under the instruction of teaching/senior staff to enable a child to access all areas of the learning
• To assist the teacher in the management of pupils within the classroom
• To support assessment and evidence learning, providing feedback to parents and teachers
• Working with the class teacher to create a stimulating classroom environment, displays and learning resources adapted to meet any additional needs
