Teacher of DT (Food specialism) required from September 2023, earlier if possible.

Full-time

Would you like to join our ADT department and grow your teaching career in our exceptional new school? Are you a food specialist looking to teach enthusiastic students in a recently opened teaching room? We have a tremendous opportunity for you at Great Western Academy and will also pay a recruitment and retention allowance to appropriate candidates.

Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and our first two cohorts of A-level students celebrated their exceptional results in summer 2021 and 2022, with strong destinations for all including three Oxbridge students.

All students attend food lessons in Key Stage 3 as part of their Design and Technology curriculum. Students thoroughly enjoy food lessons and are keen to fully immerse themselves as forward-thinking young chefs. We have created a climate where our students are inquisitive, ambitious learners who have the desire to fully explore the diversity our food curriculum has to offer. Food courses are a popular choice for our ambitious learners, with around 30% of each year group choosing to continue their studies at GCSE level. If there is demand for it, there is the scope to develop and lead a Sixth Form offer in the future. The main food teaching room is particularly well equipped, spacious and allows for both practical and theory work in modern, purpose-designed surroundings.

Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.

A recruitment and retention payment may be offered to the successful applicant for this position.

Additional benefits of working at GWA include:

• Excellent CPD opportunities

• State of the art facilities

• Leading edge ICT, including a laptop provided for all staff

• Ample free parking

• Health and Wellbeing Support Service
