We seek to appoint a Subject Leader for Computing from 1 September 2023.

The successful candidate will join the Department of Mathematics and Computing in the role of Subject Leader on a permanent full-time contract. We are looking for someone who can teacher Computer Science to at least KS4 and the ability to teach Business Studies (or any other subject) could be an advantage.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic individual to continue the shift of emphasis towards Computing throughout the 11-18 curriculum and to strengthen further the subject and its profile within the school. Computer Science is a popular subject at GCSE and A Level with positive student outcomes and we are keen build on this success.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in conjunction with the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics and Computing to further develop and strengthen the relationship and consistent approach to delivery of the two subjects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the Computing Department including managing its staff, resources and budget and leading teaching and learning and behaviour management strategies within the area. The Subject Leader will work closely with other subject leaders across the school, as well as supporting and working with the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics and Computing where appropriate.

Our Maths and Computing Curriculum Area is based in a modern purpose-built building, with IT suites situated across the school site. The department contains 16 staff (both full and part time) including the aforementioned Curriculum Leader for Maths and Computing. Backwell School offers its staff a vibrant and stimulating teaching environment and there is a broad range of professional support available for new members of staff both within the department and in the wider school.

Backwell School, part of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust, is a large comprehensive school with almost 1700 students of which 300 are in the Sixth Form.
