Background to the Post

The main purpose of the post is to support and facilitate the students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities within their learning programmes. The majority of time will be spent with students who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities within a variety of settings, e.g. cookery, English, maths, catering, woodwork, art, etc. The students are undertaking challenging programmes which may lead to vocational qualifications. The College offers a wide range of learning programmes particularly designed for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The post holder will report to the Student Support Assistant Coordinator within the Curriculum area for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Our Royal Leamington Spa campus delivers various specialisms from Hair & Beauty to Games Art & Design. As well as these courses we also have an onsite Bistro where some of our students complete their catering courses. Essential Attainments:

  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 equivalent qualification.
  • Working knowledge of information technology such as e-mail, the internet and other software applications.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A First Aid qualification or willingness to gain this qualification.
  • Experience of working with people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Work positively and effectively as a member of a team.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings.
  • Supportive, positive and non- judgemental attitude.
  • Be flexible with regard to hours of work.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures or willingness to undertake training.
