If so, we can provide you with an exciting opportunity to play a very important part in the smooth and efficient running of King’s Oak Academy by helping to provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment for the students and staff. As Premises Assistant, you will be dependable, able to take instruction and work well as a member of a team. Previous experience in a maintenance type role will put you at a considerable advantage.
What we are looking for:
To be successful in the post, we are looking for someone helpful and enthusiastic who will take pride in their work and can assist with the general upkeep and operation of the school buildings and grounds. You will take direction from the Premises Manager, be IT literate, flexible in your approach to work and be able to form excellent working relationships with your academy colleagues.
Ideally, you will have previous experience working as a school assistant caretaker or site assistant, however training will be provided and consideration will be given if you can demonstrate transferrable skills from a similar type role or comparable background.
This role is based at King’s Oak Academy and sits within the wider Cabot Learning Federation Estates Team. You will undertake a wide range of duties including:
Taking turns in alternating shifts (week 1, 6am – 2pm, week 2, 10.30am – 6.30pm)
Being pro-active in identifying, reporting and rectifying defects
Responding to a varied workload from unblocking sinks to painting and decorating
Ensuring the grounds and buildings are clean and hazard free
General porterage including distributing deliveries, moving furniture and setting up rooms
Refilling hygiene supplies
Dealing with emergency spillages, floods and drain blockages
Undertaking waste collection, litter removal and recycling
Carry out various reactive minor repairs to the buildings and grounds
Seasonal weather duties (e.g. clearing of snow, gutters and drains)
Carrying out statutory checks and testing (e.g. fire alarms and emergency lighting)
Forming productive working relationships with team and colleagues
Ensuring the academy is locked and alarmed at the end of the school day
Promoting and encouraging a strong Health & Safety culture
The successful candidate will receive training in fire safety, asbestos awareness, control of legionella and various other site safety and compliance checks.
King’s Oak Academy is situated in the heart of the Kingswood community in Bristol, just off the A4174 with dedicated staff car park and easy access to Bristol City Centre, Bath, the M32, M4 and M5. The pupils attend the all-through academy (Lower, Middle and Upper) from Reception to year 11 (4-16 years old). The buildings range from the single storey modern lower building constructed in 2015 to the two and three storey 1960-70 middle and upper buildings all set within 9 hectares of land. Recent upgrades and improvements have included re-roofing, replacement boilers and new canteen block (to be completed Sep 2022).
