Who we are
Apple Orchard School is an independent specialist school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to boys aged 11 to 21 who have complex needs associated with sexually inappropriate behaviour. Young people will come to Apple Orchard with varying life experiences, but commonly they have often been subject to varying levels of trauma. They may have suffered sexual, physical or emotional abuse or neglect. In addition, they may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and ODD.
The work we do is both varied and challenging and, as a trauma and attachment informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive therapeutic training and support.
At Apple Orchard we base our approach on the Good Lives Model. The good lives model is an approach which steers away from simply looking at an offending behaviour and how to contain it, but rather plays on the resilience of young people in building better lives.
We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing, and positive relationships and motivating students.
We are looking for a Mathematics specialist. Our Maths curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key stage 3 and GCSE. All teachers at Apple Orchard also support the teaching of other subjects such as PSHE.
Our young people require very special teachers who are able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours. They will know that our children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.
