The Role:

To provide for and support learners who require additional support, be that academic, physical, emotional or social. To work closely with lecturing/functional staff and be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a wide range of support mechanisms that will assist an individual learner to progress successfully through their vocational studies.

Key Duties:

  • Provide in-class, small group or individual support
  • Deliver and where required assess support appropriate to the learners vocational experiences, skills and knowledge
  • Assess and identify support needs of applicants during the admissions process as required
  • Liaise with the Course Tutor to enable the individual support needs of a learner to be identified
  • Under the direction of the Learner Services Manager, manage the learner records and data in accordance with the College’s data management procedures.
  • To support learners on placements, educational visits as required under the direction of the tutor or their nominee
  • Assist learners moving around the college including to and from transport and be responsible for these learners during this period.
  • Supervise and support learners at lunch and break times as timetabled, and be responsible for these learners during this period.
  • Have responsibility for the personal care needs of identified learners, including toileting.
  • Have responsibility for the medical needs of identified learners, including the administrating and handling of medicine
  • Participate in the management and improvement of Learner Behaviour
  • Be aware of, and responsive to, the changing nature of the College and adopt a flexible and proactive approach to work – this could include evening work and cross campus duties
  • Actively promote learner independence
  • Provide for access arrangements for exams, such as acting as reader, scribe, invigilation or prompt, as required.
  • Raise awareness of issues relating to equipment or resources to the Learner Services & Support Manager or their nominee 
  • To function effectively as a member of the Learner Support Team in engaging with teaching staff, other support staff, the wider college team as well as with external bodies, as appropriate.
  • To assist learners with the use of assistive technology and other specialist equipment, as required.
