Required from: September 2022

Contract term: Fixed term one year, full time

Salary: £30,099 - £50,526

The role:

We are looking for an experienced KS1 teacher for a one-year fixed term contract in Howell’s Prep School. The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate high standards of teaching and pastoral care. Enthusiasm and competence should be evidenced by a lively and engaging teaching style and active participation in the life of the School. The teaching commitment will be a full timetable.

The Department:

The Prep School is set in its own grounds on the same extensive site as the Senior School. Specialist teaching rooms include a Library, Music, ICT and Art/DT room, with interactive whiteboards in each of the 14 classrooms, and every room is well-resourced with lively and colourful displays. The girls take full advantage of the facilities in the Senior School also, the indoor swimming pool, the Sports Pavilion, the music instrumental teaching rooms and the Great Hall.

Howell’s Prep School is a caring, family community. The girls are happy and motivated, have a real love of learning and are well supported by their parents. The committed staff work closely and positively as a team to ensure that our warm, friendly environment is maintained and that all girls have an enriched and holistic experience.

About the School:

Howell’s School, Llandaff, is one of the oldest girls’ school in Wales, having opened in August 1860. Since then, it has steadily expanded, both in terms of student numbers and physical size. The school now caters for girls from the age of 3 to 16 and girls and boys 16-18. Since 1980 it has been a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the largest organisation of independent schools in the UK. Its 26 member schools all have a reputation for consistently high academic standards, superb pastoral support and enviable extra-curricular programmes.

The facilities inside the Victorian building and its more modern extensions are first-class and the opportunities for extracurricular activities, teamwork and confidence-building numerous. Academically, the school provides great added value, with results at both GCSE and A Level regularly greatly exceeding expectations.

As part of the GDST, the UK's leading network of independent girls' schools, we can offer a variety of benefits, such as:

• Competitive salaries and pay progression

• Access to extensive professional development opportunities

• Training grants for qualifications

• A generous flexible pension scheme

• Free life assurance benefit

• A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools

• Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans

• A Cycle to Work scheme

• Competitive terms and conditions of employment

The closing date for applications is 12pm on Tuesday 30th August 2022.

The Girls’ Day School Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and child protection checks will apply to this post.
