History Teacher

Start: ASAP

Salary: MPR1 – UPR3 (+ potential TLR 2b for a suitable candidate)

Location: Bedminster Down School (near Bristol)

Contract: Full time

Term: Maternity Cover

Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher to join our Humanities team on a full-time basis to cover a colleague on maternity leave. The school is rated as good by Ofsted and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic history teacher to help us support every one of our students to make the very best progress that they can. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly, supportive and highly experienced history team, which is part of a wider humanities curriculum team. You will teach across the ability range, delivering history lessons to students in both KS3 and KS4. The colleague you will be covering is a middle leader within the school, who leads the humanities curriculum team, including being the subject lead for history. A TLR is available to a suitably skilled and experienced candidate who would like to take on the responsibilities of being the subject lead for history.

Our history curriculum is rooted in high expectations of all students, with a focus on covering rich and interesting historical content, whilst consistently embedding the core knowledge that makes students high quality historians. We believe strongly in giving all students access to study history at KS4, should they wish to, and over half of students choose to do so each year. Our curriculum ensures there is no repetition of historical content across KS3 and KS4, so that students are exposed to as much knowledge as possible across their secondary school life. We work closely with the other Futura secondary schools to develop our shared curriculum, to share the best resources and to identify the best teaching practice and share this pedagogical knowledge between schools. We have a strong belief in the power of high-quality teaching and learning to change the lives of our students and we have developed highly effective lesson structures and pedagogical approaches which drive progress in every lesson.

We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is truly exceptional. Our consistent approach to behaviour management across the school ensures that any low-level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively. Our senior and pastoral teams manage the rare incidents of highly challenging behaviour and permanently staff the behaviour support rooms. This means that, as a teacher at Bedminster Down School, you have the ability to spend your work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize engagement and progress, as well as providing high quality feedback to your students.

In return we offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • A full and varied CPD programme offering teaching and leadership development for our staff
  • An opportunity to work in a supportive team from whom you can learn, develop and grow
  • Wider opportunities to be involved across the Futura Learning Partnership
  • An energised and professional working environment
  • Benefits include; pension scheme, discounted sports centre/gym membership, free wellbeing support & medical cover, free on-site parking and cycle to work scheme.

We are keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact Laura Campbell (Assistant Principal) by E-Mail. This is particularly recommended if you are keen to apply for the TLR post alongside the teaching role.  Contact details can be located within the 'Apply Now' section; please log in or register to view.
