Teacher of Drama (Maternity Cover) required asap. (Full-time/Part-time)

Would you like to join our Drama department and grow your teaching career in our exceptional new school?

Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in years 7,8,9,10 and 11 and our first two cohorts of A-level students celebrated their exceptional results in summer 2021 and 2022, with strong destinations for all including three Oxbridge students.

This position is initially a maternity post but may develop into a permanent role depending on the school’s staffing need for September 2023. The successful candidate will have the chance to teach all levels of Drama, including GCSE and A-level, and experience of preparing students for written exams and for their NEA would support any application. We follow the Eduqas specifications and the faculty has excellent resources to support with teaching, but the ability to enhance students’ subject knowledge and approach to both elements of the assessment would be fundamental. Additionally, the ability to teach English or another curriculum subject would enhance any application.

Drama is a key part of our Performing Arts faculty of 6 experienced and committed staff. All students take Drama in Key Stage 3 and it is a popular options subject. Enrichment opportunities within the faculty include drama clubs, an annual school show (which is a real highlight of the GWA calendar), house competitions and House Performing Arts. Commitment to these events will be expected for the successful candidate. All of these are timetabled as part of the school enrichment programme.

Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our brand new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the proven ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.

Additional benefits of working at GWA include:

• Excellent CPD opportunities

• State of the art facilities

• Leading edge ICT, including a laptop provided for all staff

• Ample free parking

• Health and Wellbeing Support Service

Further details are available on the Academy website and in the information documents attached.

Applications should be submitted electronically to the recruitment email by 9am on Monday 6th February 2023, interviews will be later that week.
