Director of Sixth –  Secondary Phase

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and successful teacher to join our thriving, oversubscribed and outstanding all-through school. The aim of the Director of Sixth Form is to lead students and staff in Dunraven’s Sixth Form, in the pursuit of ‘Excellence for All’.

JOB DESCRIPTION

PURPOSE:

In addition to the responsibilities of a teacher as required, the Director of Sixth:

  • assists the Headteacher in managing the school, including supporting the managing of the North Site son a day-to-day basis
  • promotes the objectives and targets of the School Excellence Plan for the Sixth Form 
  • furthers the development of a well-organised, orderly, stimulating, hard-working and supportive learning environment, taking responsibility for day-to-day decisions on the North Site
  • helps to create a culture of achievement and success by personal example and leadership
  • encourages professional attitudes amongst teaching and support staff colleagues
  • facilitates and ensures the highest standards of teaching and learning
  • monitors, supports and reviews the work of certain curricular and pastoral areas
  • line managing the Sixth Form team
  • may attend governors’ meetings, preparing reports as required

RESPONSIBLE FOR: 

The provision of a full learning experience and support for students at Dunraven Sixth Form.

Main (Core) Duties:

  • To provide day-to-day leadership and management of the Sixth Form
  • Being part of the Lesson Intervention Team
  • To create, an orderly environment for learning and personal development in the Sixth Form, and oversee the Sixth Form personal development curriculum.
  • To monitor attendance and punctuality, taking action where appropriate
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and personal development of students, including students’ performance in relation to targets set for each individual; adhering to follow-up procedures and taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • To organise and oversee an appropriately broad, balanced and relevant enrichment programme for students studying in the Sixth Form.
  • To support the implementation of school Policies and Procedures, for example Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety.
  • To lead Sixth Form Year team meetings and formulate aims and objectives for the Sixth Form which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims and objectives of the school.
  • To coordinate the delivery of the Sixth Form PSHCE and Enrichment programme
  • To support students in their applications to university and/or careers or further training
  • To keep up to date with national 16-19 developments and teaching and pastoral practice and methodology.
  • To lead post-results and induction processes, by ensuring that students have the best possible guidance when A-Level results are published and that students who have received GCSE results are carefully enrolled on the days following GCSE results day. represent Dunraven Sixth Form within the SL6 partnership and to collaborate with colleagues across Dunraven Educational trust.
  • To maintain and develop excellent relationships with all families, advising them on post-sixteen educational issues throughout their students journey through the Sixth Form.
