Job Description – Data Manager

Reporting to: SLT
Salary: Support Staff Pay Scale, Grade H points 17 - 24, £25,557 - £29,811 FTE. Actual salary £22,483 - £26,225.
Hours: Full-time, term time + Inset Days + one additional week (around results days for GCSE and Post-16 in the August of each year)

This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic Data Manager to join us and be responsible for all aspects of the school’s data. The successful candidate will carry out regular data reporting and provide interpretation for others. We are looking for someone with a genuine passion and interest in data management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • To use the schools Information Management System (currently SIMS) software to manage the computerised database
  • To Line Manager the Second in Data
  • To provide accurate student reports on attainment and achievement to the SLT, Head of Departments and Heads of Years
  • To manage the creation and distribution of student reports
  • To keep all data and records accurate and up to date including the school roll
  • To assist with the analysis of examination results using SIMS and Excel, to provide data for external statistical returns in September
  • To maintain the qualifications database within SIMS and liaise with the Examinations Manager as required
  • To manage the day to day operation of 4matrix to ensure its data represents the most recent data collected
  • Work with the SLT to conduct self-evaluation surveys within the school
  • To maintain and distribute data on groups of students, such as those who are entitled to a pupil premium
  • To be responsible for statutory returns including the termly school census, providing data about students, achievements, attendance, sixth form learning etc. This informs much of the schools funding
  • To be responsible for providing data to GLT as required
  • Take an interactive role in the GLT Data Managers groups
  • To play an important part in the schools’ administration team to ensure that a professional and efficient service is delivered at all times
  • To support the senior leader with responsibility for timetabling, by aiding and maintaining of key timetable and curriculum tasks, including the Options process
  • Provide formal training on the MIS to staff as required
  • To work with the SLT to develop and implement new strategic initiatives
  • Develop the systems used and create disaster contingencies and routine maintenance
  • Being aware of and complying with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities and race equality, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • To be responsible for assigning students to classes and the distribution of both staff and student timetables
  • To be responsible for ensuring the year 7 intake’s KS2 data is complete and accurate and imported to the system
  • Undertaking any other duties commensurate with the post as may be required by the Senior Leadership Team and Headteacher
  • Supporting the GDPR Lead to take a pro-active role in relation to data protection and the systems used within the school
